On 25 March 1999, Chornovil and his driver Yevhen Pavlov died when their car collided with a truck. His family and associates maintained that he had been murdered. In 2021, Suspilne reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office was examining that possibility.
How to read reports about the case
A witness’s statement, a family’s position, a news report and a court ruling are different kinds of sources. Check who is speaking, what evidence is cited and when the account appeared. A report describing the investigation in 2021 does not automatically establish its status today.
